Tokyo 2020 Olympics - VR Immersive Learning Experience
Traditional readiness simulations and test events were resource-intensive and lacked the immersive realism needed for effective training. There was a need to expose VGMs to realistic operational scenarios to prepare them for the complexities of managing Olympic venues.
Ikosaeder designed a 30-60 minute interactive VR training module using the Unreal game engine, deployed via HTC Vive Pro devices. Participants engaged with simulated phone and radio communications, practicing core event management competencies such as issue resolution, information sharing, and Communication Command and Control (C3) protocols in a hyper-realistic venue environment.
The VR training provided an immersive learning experience, allowing VGMs to practice decision-making under stress in a safe setting. Performance metrics were captured in real-time, offering valuable insights for readiness reporting and continuous improvement. This innovative approach ensured key operational competencies were taught effectively, setting a new standard for large-scale event preparation.
